Please note that I do not say a " Belgian painter ". The distinction must be made because Boomputte paints vignettes of life that are universal. His work is compares to that of Honoré Daumier. He has that same knack for observing people, in a spirit that is at the same time ironical and moralising. Boomputte's canvases are vibrant with the colour red, a true clear intense red. Red is his favourite colour, but it is more than that. Jean-Marie says " I will try to tell you about red " "Red is like a "coup de foudre ", a symbol of love and passion. It's classic, "raffiné", insolent, sophisticated. It's also the colour of excess, fire, seduction and desire. The colour for cardinals, for interdictions.
